Despite a pretty bad summer for movies at movie theaters, The Lion King was a huge success for Walt Disney Studios. Thanks to another very good weekend, the photorealistic remake has now become the highest-grossing cinema box office movie in history. The movie has now made huge profits of $ 1.33 billion worldwide, of which $ 473.10 million is worldwide. The first place to date was the movie Frozen, which ended its screening with earned $ 1.28 billion, of which $ 400.73 million is in America.
We must emphasize that The Lion King is technically an animated film! Although some call it a live-action remake, it is still a classic animated film because of the computer-generated nature of its characters.
That's just another win for The Walt Disney Company, which has already set a new record for three quarters of the year. Through July, Disney earned $ 7.67 billion worldwide, breaking last year's record of $ 7.61 billion five months earlier.
The Lion King is a huge money-maker for House of Mice, but it's still nowhere near overtaking Marvel Studios Avengers: Endgame (which I thought would be a little closer). The Russo brothers took the Avatar off the throne, earning a whopping $ 2.79 billion.
The studio has more big hits this year - like Frozen 2 and Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker - which means the studio's earnings will only continue to grow. If these films earn close to their predecessors, that is an additional $ 2 billion for Disney by the end of this year.
The Lion King is still playing in theaters and it will be interesting to see how much more he will be able to earn by the end of his screening. Who knows, if they cast a deleted scene and release it again in theaters, it could be up to $ 2 billion.
