Elon Musk is determined to travel to Mars and return home, and for that, it takes a spacecraft to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere. To do this, it needs to withstand huge heat, so SpaceX tested the Starship heat shield.
Mask on Twitter said that Starship was able to withstand the temperature of 1,650 Kelvinas, and his hexagonal shape helped him prevent possible damage from the heat.
According to Mask, the ship must be ready for a new flight immediately after the landing. Therefore, cooling of the areas on which the shield is erosion will be added. It is a matter of further cooling with the release of water and methane.
Testing the heat shield was completely successful, so Mask is now a step closer to the trip to Mars. He believes that this will happen in 2024, if, of course, everything goes according to the plan.
